I want to get an android phone for black friday, so does anybody know if they put their android phones on sale, or just the reject ones nobody wants
I got the Lg rumor touch last time and it kind of sucks…
Android answers:

Laura asks…
What current phones are Symbian?
Apparently, up until 2010, 31m Symbian phones were sold and was 2nd behind Android in the smartphone OS market. (http://mashable.com/2011/01/31/android-most-popular-platform/). Just wondering, what are these phones?
Cause I don’t know one person who has recently bought a Symbian phone but I know plenty of people who have Android, Apple or Windows 7 phones. Yet Nokia is second in sales.
I know heaps of people with old Nokia phone – non smart phones that don’t have internet capacity etc. But they’re just people who haven’t gotten a smart phone yet, and I think most of them would’ve bought these phones a long time ago.
So where are these new Symbian phone sales coming from? Can someone give me some popular Symbian based phones?
Android answers:
There are tons of Symbian devices still available. Nokia N8, E7, X7, E6, C7, C6-01, 500, 700, 701, 600 603 and more (the one with the hundreds are the newest ones and some are still not out yet). N8 is probably the more popular Symbian phone due to it having the best camera on a phone.
I’m surprised you’ve seen people with Windows Phone devices. I’ve actually met more Symbian users than WP users (which is none). Nokia is starting to move away from Symbian (those new models are actually mid-range devices whereas 800, 900 series are high end devices which won’t use Symbian). Instead they are heading the Windows Phone way too.

Maria asks…
I cannot upload or download attachments in Yahoo mail as of Oct 18, 2011.?
As of Oct 18, 2011 I have not been able to upload or download Yahoo email attachments (new mail version). I still have one Yahoo Mail Classic account and it works fine, but my two “New” Yahoo Mail accounts that worked fine until Oct 18, 2011 and now all attachments received show as a “piece of paper with the top corner folded” and will not open (download) and I cannot send ANY attachment as they won’t attach. It is impossible to get in touch with anyone at Yahoo. I Googled this problem and found several blogs where others are also having this problem. Over 24 hours later and still not working.
I tried my two Yahoo accounts in Firefox, Google Chrome and IE, same problem. I tried my Yahoo accounts on two other computers, same problem. I tried both Yahoo accounts on my Android phone, one account can open attachments but the other (main yahoo account) just opens up a screen that says “Options” and never even opens up my main mail screen after I log in. This same account worked on my Android phone several days ago. This is freaking annoying Yahoo.
How does anyone contact Yahoo Support (free) for something that is wrong with THEIR product? What is going on with attachment problems? Why hasn’t Yahoo fixed this problem? Why does my one Classic account still work fine? How do I switch back to classic mail with my other accounts?
As of 4:00 pm CDT 10-19-11 my email accounts are now working again. The attachments have the correct thumbnail and I can now download them just as I could before. I also just attempted to send an attachment on my email and it also worked, although a little slow it did attach and the thumbnail was correct. Apparently Yahoo did something………..
Android answers:
I have the same issue. For one user download/upload works, the other simply doesn’t. It seems that they are aware of the issue.
They posted a banner saying exactly this on the yahoo help page.
In the meantime you can use the “attach large files” application. That seems to be working.
Shame on you YAHOO!

IPAD KILLER!!!!!!!!

Nancy asks…
- Does the Advanced Task Killer app work for Smart Phones or just Androids?
I have a Nokia Neuron. Not getting a Droid until my birthday (8.28.2011).
* Make that 8.29. Sorry, don’t know my own birthday apparently. At least today I don’t.
lol
Android answers:
Most smartphones have their own variant of a task killer. The operating systems on Nokia phones (Symbian OS) are built differently, which is why you can’t just download an Android app to a Symbian phone.

Jenny asks…
If I watch an infected movie clip on my tablet running an android 2.2 system or higher. Will I get infected?
I’m considering buying a tablet with an android 2.2 or higher. Forums I’ve read seem to think you don’t need AV protection on android. When I open a movie clip, am I downloading? If so, does the android system protect me some how??? I just want to know how to safely surf the net (open movie clips and what not) without infecting my new tablet.
Android answers:
You only need it for viruses that are geared toward android. So that means you only need to watch out for infected apps and other stuff made for android. I wouldn’t worry so much about the other stuff. Still should be careful about sketchy websites though ofc.

Sandy asks…

How to install Android on Bada?
I know that it is possible due to this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Androidonwave
I just am not sure about it.. has anybody tried this? and if it works then could you tell me if it works fine? like can you use the android market? can you make phone calls? does it lag? etc
Android answers:
5. Somebody on the forum is asking about the status of the project or doing something else very noobish..
Ignore it, report the post to the mods. There is a report icon for doing that at the top of each post . Alternatively, send the poster a PM to politely tell him about his mistake and point him to this page. DO NOT reply, it will only add to the mess and also start a flame war.
Looks like its not ready yet…

Nancy asks…
What is the best non-android phone from virgin mobile?
I’m rather picky about my phones. I generally prefer slider touch screen phones. The rumor touch was my favorite phone, but it has issues with reliable texting. Anything that is essentially a replica of the rumor touch but with reliable texting will be appreciated. My parents have this thing about only being able to have virgin mobile phones without android, for money reasons.
A recap:
-Qwerty keyboard
-Touch screen
-Non-android
-Virgin Mobile
Thanks in advance!
Android answers:
- In my opinion LG Rumor Touch Prepaid Phone (Virgin Mobile) is good one for you.

James asks…
How do I make the keyboard backlight stay lit longer on my Samsung Gravity Smart?
How do I make the keyboard backlight stay lit longer on my Samsung Gravity Smart? It’s android based so I’m sure its the same for all android phones with a back lit slide out keyboard.
Android answers:
Keyboard settings cant be done separately.

Susan asks…
When will a cell phone with a qwerty keyboard come out?
A phone like the Motorola Calgary or the Samsung Rouge also known as the Glyde 2 but I want the Calgary because it might have better aim since it’s an android phone
Android answers:
My Motorola Q9C has a qwerty keyboard and i swear by my phone. I love it and wouldn’t trade it for any of the newer “toys” out there. It has simple and amazing mobile email with multiple accounts.

Ken asks…
Touch screen phones with slide qwerty keyboards, NOT ANDROID?
I want to get a phone of those specifications,
Any suggestions?
Some similar to Samsung B3410, LG Xenon, etc.
Thanks (:
I know this sounds strange, but could you also tell me if to browse the web you have to actually turn the internet on, as on Android phones?
Android answers:
Nokia E7.
Of course you need to turn the internet on. You either use your 3G connection or Wi-Fi connection to get onto the internet.

Sandy asks…
what is the best phone running android but has a qwerty keyboard with buttons?
after research i have seen the Desire Z
any out there better than this?
Android answers:
I’d say the Samsung Epic for Sprint or the T-Mobile G2. These are probably the best Android qwerty phones for their respective carriers.

How do I develop Android Apps in DrJava?
I’m using DrJava, not Eclipse, as my Java IDE. I’ve downloaded the Android SDK, but I’m not sure how to add the files to drJava, or how to run it. If anyone knows, could you please answer? I’m not looking for the answer Switch to Eclipse, I’d much rather stay with this.
Thanks!
Android answers:
Download jbed.apk, it may help

Robert asks…
how can i develop android application without external platform errors?
i had tried installing and developing android applications using different platforms such as eclipse, netbeans, but after successful step by step installations even the default programs cant run.
they show some errors even in the default programs like helloworld such as cant locate android/sdk/tools,error in r.layout file, etc
so is there any platform where i could develop android programs easily?
Android answers:
Eclipse is the standard supported IDE but you still need the Android SDK available here:
http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
Trust me, READ THE FULL GUIDE, you’ll need it.

Ruth asks…
What programs do I need to make android apps?
So I know I need an android SDK. But is there anything els I need. I am working on windows xp. Thank You in advance.
I do not know much the most I have ever programed was a little javascript
Android answers:
That’s all you need for software. Otherwise, you need to know Java rather well. I already recommended the following to someone else:
1. Java intro tutorial: http://download.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/java/index.html It is no cost and self-paced. This gets you up and running.
2. The best combo I’ve found after that for proper paid training is at gogotraining.com. They have an Android programming training program where you can take intro to Java 6 with swing and servlets and then roll right into intro and advanced Android programming courses or just do the Android on their own. Find it here: http://gogotraining.com/training/programs/android-development.php
Good luck!

Donald asks…
How do you make an app/game to put on the android market?
I have the Android SDK and Eclipse installed on my computer, I also have paid the $25 for a developer console on the android market. My problem is that I don’t know how to use eclipse(I even watched tutorials and I’m still confused) and I want to make games to put on the Android Market, but I don’t know how! Do I need anymore software or anything else? PLEASE HELP!!
Android answers:
You need to learn Java.

Maria asks…
Where can i download Android app SDK complete offline installer?
I want to learn and start developing android apps, for that i searched SDK but most of the software i found need an online connection during installation.
My internet connection is so slow that i cant be able to finish the installation process using this much slow connection.
So pls get me a link for downloading the entire SDK(so that i can install it offline) for android app development.
Note: the SDK i downloaded(which need online connection during installation) is http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
Android answers:
Downloading the entire SDK will be the same size but would come on one large download. As Android is work in progress you download the basic SDK files from your link and then run the SDK Manager which will fetch the latest updated platform details and tools. These are relatively small files (the largest is around 20MB) most of which are a few bytes in size. The SDK Manager then installs all the bits in all the right places. Even with a slow connection it should not cause a problem and will be an easier download than doing the whole thing in one large file.

David asks…
Does anybody out there have a Sprint Moment android phone?
I bought it switching from my trusty blackberry curve, simply because I hated the trackball and dont like QWERTY keyboards, and the Moment has at least a touchscreen that I can use. But I just got the phone and I dont like the fingerprint smudges, and it seems a little bulky. I didnt review it first, and the reviews online are not good. HELP! Should I return it for the HTC Hero or something else… I wish more phones had the old school 1ABC key type format.
The Hero does not have a keyboard, and I am a little wary of only having touchscreen… but if it is good, I am willing to give it a try.
Android answers:
I switched my Curve out for a Moment too… It took some getting used to of course but now I LOVE my Moment and everything it can do. I didnt like the Hero because it sucks not having a keyboard you can use if you dont feel like taking an hour to type something out. I worked at Sprint for 5 years and had a BB the whole time and kind of miss it but really the Moment is great!

Thomas asks…
Review of HTC Wildfire plzz ?
Can some one please post me full review of HTC Wildfire like its battery life , music quality etc……
And should i buy it as it exactly fits my pocket or suggest me an android phone of same price or lower
Android answers:
HTC Wildfie is the lower cost version of HTC Desire. The battery life is not that bad usually battery runs low pretty quick on touchscreen phones. But I would suggest you to get the HTC Nexus One which will be a very nice buy although the price is little on the higher side. Otherwise, Wildfire is a good buy. If you need any Android phones cheaper, you can mail me to manchurianp@yahoo.com

William asks…
Android vs Blackberry?
I currently have an android phone samsung galaxy ace and i don’t really like the android apps available to me. I know i cant get all the apps on the market on my phone so i looked on the android market still not much that satisfied me. Also i watch app reviews from coolosertech, qwalker and pocketnow on youtube and still not much that satisfied me.
Also i always end up pressing the wrong buttons when using the on screen qwerty keyboard.
Im not concerned about the camera on my phone because i hardly ever use it
i like the look of qwerty keyboard on the blackberry curve 3g i know the app store on the blackberry offers much less than android but don’t like whats on offer on android so it seams pointless having it.
Also i don’t do much web browsing so i don’t think the screen only being “2.5″ would matter to me
Furthermore, the facebook blackberry’s seams to be better
i am considering getting an ipod touch because i like the range of apps available on the app store but the iphone costs too much on pay as you go and i don’t want a contract.
I know ipod touches don’t have the internet on the move but most of the apps that i use on my android phone don’t require internet access or i only really use them when im within wifi range
what are the pros and cons of blackberry’s against android phones?
Thank You in Advance
or should i get the htc cha cha http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/mobiles/mobile-phones/HTC-CHA-CHA/PPAY?src=phoneFinder&tariffNetworks=&clearance=false
or the Sony Ericsson xperia mini pro http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/mobiles/mobile-phones/SONY-ERIC-XPERIA-MINI-PRO/PPAY?src=phoneFinder&tariffNetworks=&clearance=false#rdOverviewContentTab
Android answers:
If you want a QWERTY keypad for your mobile phone, the Xperia mini and HTC ChaCha would be the best.
The HTC ChaCha is a bit like the BlackBerry Curve and has some Facebook integration built in. I haven’t used one, so not sure how good it is, but I am told the keyboard is pretty impressive.
The Xperia mini is better if you want touch-screen and something that fits easily in your pocket, because of the slide-out keyboard.
My favourite is the HTC Desire Z. It has the slide-out QWERTY keypad, and a decent sized touch-screen for web-browsing. I also use it as SatNav, so saved £100. That’s the advantage of Android apps; you can get loads of fantastic apps on your phone for free thanks to Google.
Try this site http://www.androidphonewithkeyboard.co.uk/
Hope this helps.

Please help, Powerdirector gives me this error when I try to edit videos from my android phone!?
I take video with my android smartphone LG OPTIMUS M and then i transfer the DCIM video file to my hard drive in Windows7, Then I add the video file as media to be edited into the powerdirector8 program..then I drag and drop the video into the timeline…all that goes just fine…
BUT THEN:
PowerDirector8 wont play the clip, it will not let me review it in the timeline, instead it gives me the following error message instead; (which I don’t understand at all)
“Cyberlink powerdirector could not construct the media source as a graph.
This may be due to a lack of decoding filters for the file you are trying to edit”
What is this about a “graph”?? I dont want a graph… I dont even understand what that error message means, and how do I get the clip to play in the timeline of powerdirector?
I am totally unable to edit any of my videos taken by my phone, powerdirector simply refuses to play the clips and repeatedly give me that same error message…
Please advise, and thank you for your time,
Perry in FL

Mark asks…
Best Android/HTC smartphone, and is the iPhone 4S good?
I need a new phone to replace my old Nokia. I have an iPod touch, and I really like iOS, and my dad has an iPhone 4. But my parents really don’t want me to get an iPhone because they say its too costly and all that. I also hear that a lot of the iPhone 4S’s have huge battery issues. So I’m looking at some HTC and Android phones. First off, Android is Google, and HTC is Windows Phone yeah? I’m not sure. But there are heeeaaappss of different ones, and they all have good and bad reviews. My dad used to have a HTC and he was always complaining that everytime he turned the phone off, it erased all his data and contacts… but that was a few years ago. So I don’t know what to get, I saw a HTC Evo 3d and the Samsung Galaxy S2 and they both looked pretty cool. I mainly want it for web browsing and Facebook, then texts, and very little calls.
Also, please don’t just answer: “I have an iPhone/Android/HTC and it’s great! You should get one”. please tell me why. Thanks
It would be really good to have one that plays music just as well as an iPhone/iPod, so that I don’t have to take my iPod on the train too. I see heaps that have like 500MB memory and I think WHAT? My iPod is 32GB and THAT’S barely enough.
one more thing, the iPhone 4S says it has dual A5 chips, and everything else is on about 1.2ghz or whatever. can someone please explain the difference and use the iphone cpu as a comparison point because I’m not too good at this sort of thing.
Android answers:
Nowadays, the HTC is not only running window system, it is also quite good on Android. The HTC and Samsung are both active on Android market. The efficiency of HTC is good as it goes with the HTC SENSE, the screen of Samsung is nicer than HTC as htc is a little blue / grey when compare with Samsung.
Yes, iphone 4s has dual A5 chips which is only 800mhz, but that is only a number, the development of IOS is smoother than android (for my own opinion), so it makes the 800mhz cpu seems better / similar efficiency with 1.2ghz or 1.4ghz cpu.
My opinion is, HTC is more stable than Samsung, Samsung’s screen is sharper than HTC, so it will be good if you like to play the videos on it. Iphone 4s is more smoother than HTC / Samsung due to the design of IOS system, the camera and video recording are awesome. But the screen is smaller and the style unified.
I hope the above information can help you, and hope you can forgive my “Chinese-english”

Ken asks…
Can I transfer my text messages from my old phone (AT&T) to my new Android phone (Sprint)? They’ll use same #.?
I’m switching cell phone providers from AT&T to Sprint and I was wondering how I can transfer a few texts from my old phone, which is a feature phone on AT&T, to my new Android phone on Sprint. I’m also transferring my old number from AT&T to Sprint, so achieving this text message transfer may be slightly more difficult to do. Is there a direct way to transfer these texts, and if not, what is a great indirect way to do this? It’s quite important that these texts are preserved on my new phone, so any and all great suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance, I could really use some help on this.
Android answers:
I don’t believe you can transfer texts down. Why not just write down the texts on a piece of paper if they are really important.

David asks…
android phone on sprint?
Hey my dad just made the switch to Sprint. He g family plan and we all got android smart phones with unlimited data/text and talk and stuff. My question is would he be able to get a hold of records of my txt messages and things I downloaded to my pho.ne if he justs requests it from sprint? Or is it more complicated than that that? Is it even possible? Thanks
Android answers:
He will be able to see (online) with the bill how many text messages you used for the month. He cannot see nor can he request (without a court order) the messages sent or received. He can only see the number of messages used. He will be able to see what you download to your phone on the bill. For example, if you downloaded a ringtone or game, the title of the download will appear as well as the price.

It includes 450 voice minutes, unlimited messaging and unlimited data.

Joseph asks…
Best sprint android phone?
What’s the best android phone from sprint that’s either out now or coming out soon
I want my ps1 and nintendo 64 emulators to work great…. but I have a HTC evo and I see and hear that its not the best phone from sprint
Is the Samsung epic better or is something else better
@jaybird lol i had a iphone 3gs and there is a reason i dont have it anymore……
and dude its iPhone
Android answers:
Evo is not the best phone on Sprint>?!?!?!!?!?!?… Are these people you talk to smokin crack or meth?????????????????????????????????????????
To date… The best is Evo… #2 is Epic… #3 is Evo Shift……..
Next, if you friends knew anything… PS1 and N64 devices was dualcore… EVO and EPIC is single core… Shoot… All androids are single core…. The emulators for the android are based on the dual core programming of these 2 systems… They will be choopy and very slow based on this reason ALONE—Current droids are single core, regardless of carrier!!.. The emulators are running on 30 fps… The phones can do 60 fps easily… But the graphics are to intense… The single 1ghz processor cant handle both 60fps and extreme graphics… Thats why ps1 and n64 were dual core… One core handled the 60fps and the other the graphics… This is also the reason why the emulator developers cut the app down to 30fps… So single core phones can use the app…. 30fps+intence graphics = choppy app, but still runs on single core phones
So, when we ALL get dual core androids in about 1-3 months… Then expect the ps1 and n64 emulators to work awesome with maybe a 1 chop every 10-20 minutes on any dual core androids.

How do I update the Android Market on my T-Mobile sidekick 4G?
I tried to make a purchase and I got a message saying that I need to update my Android Market to version 2.3.4 or higher.
I heard somewhere that the Android Market is supposed to update itself, but I’m not sure. How can I get the latest Android Market?
P.S. – my phone has been updated with the latest software.
Android answers:
That is strange. As you said, it should update automatically. If you go to android market app and search for “android market” in the search apps option, the app should show as installed and the automatic update option in there should be ticked. But it will be ticked by default. Try searching in google for the latest android market version apk file and try a manual install. Hope it helps.

I am looking into an android phone, the reviews for the phones I am looking at , HTC wildfire and Samsung Galaxy mini, state that the resolution for the phones are not so good. What is a good resolution or screen type for the kind of phone I am looking for?
Android answers:
For android don’t take nothing less than 320×480
Both these are 240×320
That means you won’t be able to get certain apps on the. Market and things look more pixellated.
If you can, get one with 480×800 resolution

Linda asks…
Will my Android phone be able to sync with a Chromebook?
I am thinking about getting a Chromebook soon, but every review I’ve read says that a Chromebook won’t replace my PC. The only reason I still have a laptop is to sync my phone and store files. Does anyone know if it’s possible to sync an Android phone (Samsung Charge) on a Chromebook?
I’ve read that the Chromebook has a small SSD drive for storing files temporarily, and that it’s still possible to keep files on an SD card or a flash drive. Can I move files from the Chromebook, Cloud, SD card, or flash drive, directly to my Android phone, or is this something that must be done on a full-size laptop?
Android answers:
Well, Chromebook only replaces a larger laptop if you don’t do heavy word/pic/tunes editing. Which I don’t do. Now understand this about “synching with the Chromebook. Nothing is kept on the Chromebook. All keeper notes/docs/pics/tunes are kept in the Google cloud locations –Google Docs, Picasso, etc. During the day with your Chromebook –you creat/store/edit files that are on the web with the Google (or other web cloud location or web app). So returning to your laptop –there is nothing on the Chromebook to synch. Your laptop can access the file at Google Docs/Picasso as well as your Chromebook Chrome browser can access it. You can download the newly created file from Google Docs with your bigger laptop. Then have a copy of the days’s file on both Goggle Docs in the cloud –and on your bigger laptop. That is the “synching” –what you really want is access to the same file with all three –Android phone, Chromebook, laptop. Doing above satisfies.

I know it depends on hardware too. Thanks
Android answers:
Personally i liked windows mango, its u.i is revolutionary cool, simple, compared to boring android u.i.also comparing similar spec phone win phone is smoother and faster better battery backup.only problem is apps which is 30k compared to .5 million of android, but all quality apps on android is available also with nokia partership lot of app developers are intrested in making app for windows.buying nokia windows phone will be best as it offer lot like free gps ,music store etc.

Mary asks…
Android Ice-cream Sandwich?
What’s the different between this ice-cream Sandwich and the Gingerbread?
Which Samsung phone has this ice-cream Sandwich version of Android?
Android answers:
Ice Cream Sandwich is the highest end version of Android (like going from windows vista, to win7, to win8 etc). No other phone officially supports ICS except the Nexxus S. Samsung (only the highend devices) tablets should get it eventually. ICS was primarily made to run on tablets but made its way to the nexxus (good enough specs to run it).

Donald asks…
Cheap 10 inch tablet with Android Ice-cream sandwich?
I want to buy a cheap 10 inch tablet with Android Ice-cream sandwich (4.0).
These are the functions i want:
- WI-FI and maybe 3G
- Android Ice-cream sandwich (4.0) *
- 10 inch or more
- Play movies (AVI, MP4, etc…)
- G-Sensor (like for racing games (turning))
- 5-Point-Touch-Screen Capacitive (not Resistive touch screen) Color screen
- Long life.
- Real Android Market
- Maybe 3D graphics
- HD graphics
- Built-in web camera, speaker, microphone
- USB 2.0
- Some sort of memory expansion (micro SD, SD card)
- Longish battery life
- A BRAND NAME (not unbranded)
I have about $250 to spend.
*I don’t mind Android Honeycomb (3.0), but can be updated to Android Ice-cream sandwich (4.0) when it is completed and ready to download. Or Android 2.3, then updated to Android Honeycomb (3.0) and then Android Ice-cream sandwich (4.0) when it is completed and ready to download.
Thanks,
Android answers:
Most likely no cheap tablets for $250 meet those requirements especially the brand name and 10inch screen. Those requirement are a xoom for $500.
